If you have always been fascinated by those wide-eyed lemurs and want to experience the trip of a lifetime, then you may want to consider your next destination to be to the island of Madagascar. It is dense with forests that are amazing to see, but be prepared to trek through them to be able to see the creatures that this island is so famously known for.
The island of Madagascar is located off of the east coast of South Africa in the Indian Ocean. Not only will you enjoy the rich forests, but you will also visit the vast ocean with the sandy beaches as you look for lemurs. There are at least 70 different species of these amazing animals. They have gotten quite used to humans hanging around visiting with them, so don’t be too surprised by one or two leaping towards you or climbing down a tree to say hi.
Of course, there is much more to this magical place than just lemurs. There are many brilliant colored birds to see and also geckos, reptiles, and even unusual plants to view along the way.
In the capital city of Antananarivo, you can find unique markets, beautiful castles, and museums that one can visit while there. But the real adventure begins in the wilderness to see all of the wildlife that inhabits that area.
There are a few national parks to visit as well. You may also want to check out the unique-looking trees called the Baobabs. They are referred to as ‘the upside-down tree’ because of the tops that look like roots. Taking a walk through the Avenue of the Baobabs will make you feel like an ant in comparison.
This journey to Madagascar is not meant to be a pampered time but an adventure like no other. This island is full of incredible experiences that you will not find anywhere else.
